For the best in desert ATVing, you can go any which way out of Phoenix. Outside the city you’ll find limitless opportunities for off-roading fun. Here are a few of Mile Marker’s top ATV destinations in the Phoenix area:

Tonto National Forest

A short drive east of Phoenix is one of the best ATV destinations in the area– Tonto National Forest. Tonto offers eight OHV areas with over 3,7000 miles of roads and motorized trails open to the public. The area also overs thousands of dispersed camping sites for multi-day trips. At the top of the list of ATV destinations to visit in Tonto is Bulldog Canyon. A permit is required (which you can apply for online but it’s well worth a couple of bucks to get these beautiful desert views.

Hassayampa River

To the west of Phoenix is an ATV playground you’ll sure to love— the dry Hassayampa riverbed. There are plenty of trails to explore further west of the river bottom but you’ll have just as much fun ripping around the riverbed too. Just make sure to check the forecast before you go— this isn’t a location you’ll want to find yourself in if rain is in the forecast.

Four Peaks Trail

If you are looking for ATV destinations where you can hop off your four-wheeler and enjoy a bit of walking too, head to the Four Peaks Trail. You’ll cover some of the state’s most scenic ground on your ATV and then end up only a few miles from Brown’s Peak. Get out, stretch your legs, and even brave the trek up Maricopa County’s highest point for some added adventure.

Saguaro Lake

Saguaro Lake is the perfect ATV destination if you want to make a full vacation out of your ATV trip. The area includes a marina, beach area, boat rentals, and plenty of ATVing opportunities. Start out on the 40 mile Rolls and Saguaro Lake OHV Loop and see where the adventure takes you from there!

Lake Pleasant

You can find a little bit of everything at the ATV destinations around Lake Pleasant. While you do need a permit to ATV in the park itself, the surrounding area also offers a variety of fun rides. For example, you can check out the ruins at Fort Tule and the China Dam nearby. Both offer an amazing insight into Arizona’s mining history.
